Access premium CMP research and insights .... and learn how we do it.
Hello Lingua Sinica subscribers,
As our managing editor Ryan Ho Kilpatrick mentioned yesterday in our free Lingua Sinica newsletter, we will introduce paid subscription plans this month. No worries. Our biweekly newsletter will remain free. But for paid subscribers, we have great new benefits.
I’m excited to share what’s on the horizon, produced by our strong and growing team of researchers here in Taipei. Because I know your time is valuable I’ll jump right in. Here’s what we are offering:
Access to the CMP Discourse Tracker, the China Media Project’s exclusive full-length monthly report on signs and signals in the official People’s Daily newspaper and other CCP media. We don’t just “read” or translate — we pull the discourse apart. CMP Discourse Tracker is a sharper update of our previous reports with the excellent Sinocism.
Access to the CMP Workshop, which offers regular paid subscriber-only posts that break down the basics of Chinese media, and how we do our work. Ever wonder how CCP media are structured or want insight into how official pen names work? We’ll explain. Want to know what open-source intelligence (OSINT) tools we used for our latest media investigation? We’ll share.
Access to the Lingua Sinica Bulletins, concise premium newsletters with a specific focus. Our first bulletin will be China Chatbot — a quick and timely biweekly rundown of Chinese generative AI trends with our choice of Top 8 related stories from the Sinosphere. Next, we’ll launch Intersections — a monthly rundown of issues, analysis, and must-read stories about women and female representation in the Sinophone landscape.
Access to Lingua Sinica Specials, quarterly feature stories, and translations from the Sinophone media world for you only, with more offerings to come. Be ready to be surprised.
For readers who wish to take advantage of these offerings — and who want to support our work — we have two options. For US$5 a month (or US$50 annually), you can join as a Low-Level Red (低級紅), or dijihong, member, with access to almost all of our current benefits — minus the premium CMP Discourse Tracker.
Pledging $120 or more gets you to the elite echelons of High-Level Black (高級黑), or gaojihei, membership — the Central Committee of subscribers. On top of everything mentioned above, these members will get access to the CMP Discourse Tracker and Lingua Sinica Specials. They will also get full and immediate access to any new offerings in the future, like invite-only online events.
Here’s a rundown of our membership tiers:
Lingua Sinica membership tiers will take effect on July 1. As we said, this will not impact your access to the bimonthly newsletter. We hugely appreciate the support all of you have given to this important expansion of CMP’s legacy work.
Furthering that work is another privilege you would have as a “Low-Level Red” or “High-Level Black” subscriber. A strong paid subscription base will allow the CMP team to continue our unique research and engagement on PRC media and Sinophone media globally, and to offer more unique subscriber benefits in the future.
We’re excited to roll out these new offerings. And we hope you continue to enjoy all that Lingua Sinica has to offer — whether you become a dijihong, a gaojihei, or remain a subscriber to our free service.
